The CBF Virginia staff is in Birmingham, AL, this week for CBF’s General Assembly. During today’s state meeting (3:00 p.m. Central Time), Terry and Mark will reveal exciting new initiatives to be funded through the CBF Block Grant. We want those who could not attend our state gathering to hear the good news, too! The CBF 25th Anniversary Fundraising Campaign allocated $100,000 to each state and region. Very intentionally, CBF Virginia will support all three foci of the campaign: CBF missions, the young Baptist ecosystem, and healthy churches. We are happy to announce these projects selected by the CBFVA Coordinating Council:
MISSIONS: $52,700 (52.7% of grant)
-
$25,000 will be used to assist Grace and Main Fellowship/Third Chance Ministries in purchasing a house in their ongoing efforts to address homelessness in Danville, VA.
-
$17,700 will be used to fund the LUCHA Literacy Initiative to ESOL kids and parents for three years in Fredericksburg, VA.
-
$10,000 will be used to fund a significant mission community project through Bridges of Hope Bluefield in Southwest, VA—a partnership with Bluefield College, BGAV, and WMU of Virginia.
YOUNG BAPTIST ECOSYSTEM: $30,000 (30% of grant)
-
$25,000 will be invested to launch a new congregationally based collegiate ministry at University Baptist Church in Charlottesville.
-
$5,000 will be used to assist with immersion experiences for and with college students.
HEALTHY CHURCHES: $17,300 (17.3% of grant)
-
$9,000 will employ a Theologian in Residence. For one contractual year this person will support the CBFVA staff in building CBFVA’s identity, assist congregations and clergy in a variety of ways, produce resources to aid congregations, and provide a theological framework for understanding current issues.
-
$1,500 will be used to produce 10 fifteen-minute lay leadership videos or webinars.
-
$6,800 will be used for continuing education and/or staff retreat grants for rural partner congregations in Virginia.
We express gratitude to all who gave to the 25th anniversary campaign. YOU made these impactful opportunities possible. Stay tuned for additional details about these ministry and mission initiatives and for ways your congregation can journey with CBFVA during implementation. Truly, we are forming together!
