Chatham Heights Baptist Church & First Baptist Church of Martinsville (VA)
Two sister CBF churches in Martinsville, Virginia are seeking a full-time Associate Pastor to provide spiritual leadership and pastoral care. This role combines pastoral ministry, leadership development, and program oversight to nurture faith formation across generations and strengthen family discipleship within the life of both churches.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide pastoral care to children, youth, and families, including visitation and relationship-building.

Position: Minister of Faith Development (FT)
Position Overview:
The Minister of Faith Development (MFD) serves the congregation as a full-time member of the pastoral staff, with a particular focus on intergenerational ministry to our youth, children, and families. In this role, the MFD initiates and provides leadership in the development and implementation of programs and the ministry of pastoral care to those families. MFD will provide worship leadership, preaching, pastoral care, Bible study, and funeral leadership, with additional pastoral support for Cheerful Cherubs Preschool.
Supervision: The position reports to the Senior Pastor.
Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s degree in related field preferred (Master of Divinity, Christian Ministry, Religious Education, etc.)

Primary Responsibilities:
Plan innovative activities that educate, engage, and support the faith development of our youth and children.
Maintain a direct connection with, and be present among, youth on a weekly basis.
Participate in the planning and implementation of budgets for youth and children’s programs.
Coordinate, promote, and actively participate in:
Sunday school and Wednesday evening instruction/programming for youth and children
To include: recruiting and coordinating teachers, providing necessary training, securing curriculum, expressing appreciation, etc.
Monthly Sunday Night Live youth event
Full Summer Calendar – VBS, Youth Camp, Children’s Camp, etc.
Coordinate volunteers for nursery and preschool care for Sunday morning and other church events as needed.
Other special children’s events (i.e., Back to School Kickoff, Fall Festival, Ornament Party, etc.)
Encouraging youth and children’s involvement in larger church events
Mission learning and engagement for youth and children
Lead the planning and chaperone for youth and children camps and trips.
Coordinate and actively participate in intergenerational programs designed for families to deepen their connection with one another and other families in the church.
Engage youth and children in meaningful service within the greater Greenwood community, helping them learn to live out their faith as the ‘hands and feet of Christ.’
Lead with a growth mindset, seeing all of Greenwood as an opportunity to make connections and build relationships.
Secondary Responsibilities:
Attend staff meetings, planning sessions, and committee meetings with a teamwork mindset.
Participate in weekly worship services and other church-wide events.
Share in ministerial responsibilities, including, but not limited to:
Hospital visits
“Minister on call” duties
Pastoral care – especially to youth, children, and their families
Serve as Staff Liaison to assigned committees and ministry teams
Other ministerial duties – preaching, baptisms, funerals, counseling, etc., as assigned by the senior pastor
Skills:
The successful candidate will:

Salary Range: $45,000-60,000

Primary Responsibilities
Preaching and Worship Leadership
• Faithfully preach and teach the Word of God in accordance with the Baptist Faith and Message.

Position: Family Ministry Assistant (PT)
Overview:
The Ministry Assistant supports the Pastor and ministry staff in planning, coordinating, and executing church programs and events focused on college, youth, children, and families. This role combines administrative support with hands-on facilitation of Sunday and midweek ministry activities to create welcoming, age-appropriate experiences that encourage spiritual growth and community.
Key Responsibilities:
● Sunday Services
● Assist with youth group activities during Sunday morning and evening gatherings.

● Wednesday Evening Childcare

● Administrative Support and Event Planning

● Help manage volunteers, including recruitment, training, deployment, and appreciation.
● General Duties
● Build positive relationships with children, youth, families, volunteers, and staff.

Qualifications:

● High school diploma or equivalent; higher education in ministry, education, or related field is a plus.
● Experience working with children and youth in educational, religious, or community settings.
● Basic understanding of child safety practices and ability to implement them.

● Reliable, energetic, patient, organized, and flexible.
● Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
● Willingness to learn and adapt to the church’s procedures and culture.
● Physical ability to participate in activities with children (standing, lifting, kneeling, and light physical tasks as needed).
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience coordinating events or programs in a religious or community setting.
● Basic knowledge of Bible stories, curricula, or faith-based youth programming.
● First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
Working Conditions and Schedule:
● Part-time with potential to grow to full-time, depending on church needs.
● Sundays: morning and evening commitments; Tuesdays: staff meeting (specific meeting time can be flexible); Wednesdays: evening.
● Flexible scheduling around church services, special events, and volunteer availability.
Compensation:
● Compensation commensurate with experience
