You Came to Me: Answering Christ's Call to Bring GraceInside

GraceInside – Chaplain Nick Meyer, Chaplain Vera Rhyne, and Lee Hargrave

For 105 years, GraceInside has been sent by the church to nurture faith and hope in Virginia’s prisons. Chaplain Nick Meyer, Executive Director and former chaplain, and Lee Hargrave, Director of Operations and former inmate for 35 years, will share testimonies of the fruitful work being done by 32 chaplains, in 37 prisons, among 23,000 inmates, all on behalf of the wider church.

Nick Meyer became GraceInside’s Executive Director in January 2025 after serving for seven years as chaplain at Coffeewood Correctional Center. He holds a B.A. in Church Ministry and an M.Div. from Eastern Mennonite University, where he discovered his passion for prison ministry through Clinical Pastoral Education training.

Lee Hargrave joined GraceInside in 2016, having served 35 years at Southampton and Greensville Correctional Centers, where he clerked for various chaplains. Lee has personally experienced the impact of the ministry through his interactions with chaplains while incarcerated.

Josh Hayden is the author of Remissioning Church: A Field Guide to Bring a Congregation Back to Life and runs remissioning trainings through `Iwa Collaborative across denominational and global networks. He also serves as senior pastor at First Baptist Church in Ashland, Virginia.

 

Inclusive Worship Practices for Children

How can we think beyond including children and families in worship and begin to collaborate with them? This discussion will focus on accessibility, participation, and representation, offering specific tools to make worship supportive of neurodivergent worshipers of all ages.

Rev. Harrison Litzell is Program Coordinator at the Baugh Center for Baptist Leadership at Mercer University. He has worked in children’s ministry for over ten years and now considers questions of inclusion and education in faith spaces.

Discover how collaborations strengthen communities through shared resources, cultural exchange, and mutual support in mission work. Engage with inspiring stories and learn practical ways CBF Virginia congregations can join this ongoing journey of faith and service across borders.

Xiomara Reboyras is an ordained minister, advocate, and leader with over 20 years of ministerial experience. Originally from Puerto Rico and now based in Florida, she serves as Associate Coordinator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Florida and the Caribbean Islands. Her background spans psychology, theology, social services, and innovative church leadership.

Surviving Ministry: Your Health Matters

Deborah Garrard

Are you quick to care for others while neglecting your own self-care? This session will explore practical steps to infuse your life with renewed energy, strength, joy, and generosity.

Deborah Garrard is Executive Director of be(e) well serve well, a nonprofit wellness initiative serving those who serve. She is trained in theology, nutrition, and mind-body eating, and is licensed as a Radical Remission Cancer Coach. Deborah weaves her education and experience to offer guidance for nourishing the whole person.

Vocational Discernment Beyond College

Colin Kroll

Support for young adults often focuses on the years right after high school, but early professionals also wrestle with questions about calling. This breakout explores ways to notice, name, and nurture calling in young adults as they navigate transitions and career uncertainty.

Colin Kroll serves as Young Adult Ministries Manager for CBF, providing resources for congregations to better understand young adults as partners in ministry and service. He lives in Fuquay-Varina, NC with his wife Sarah and their twin children, Axel and Luna.

Re-think evangelism in today’s context. Explore how the intersection of discipleship, service, and hospitality creates authentic invitation.

Jill Lynn is a seminary student at Union Presbyterian Seminary and member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church. With twenty years of ministry experience, she has led in church planting, intergenerational ministry, revitalization, and adaptive leadership coaching. Most recently, she served as Executive Director of Woodlake United Methodist Church in Chesterfield.

Transform Yourself and Your Pastoral Leadership

Shepherd’s Staff – Steve Booth and Terry Maples

Lasting change in congregations begins with inner transformation. This breakout introduces the concept of Pastoral Intelligence—the integration of emotional and theological learning in ministry. Learn how self-awareness, relational skills, and congregational insight can renew both clergy and congregations.

Rev. Dr. Steve Booth serves as a clergy coach and pastoral counselor with Shepherd’s Staff Ministry, facilitating Pastoral Intelligence Cohorts. With more than 40 years of pastoral and counseling experience, he integrates spiritual and psychological insight.

Rev. Terry Maples serves as a clergy and congregational coach for Shepherd’s Staff Ministry. With 27 years in local church ministry and 13 years as CBF state coordinator, he guides congregational visioning and clergy coaching, helping integrate emotional and theological learning.
