Enhancing Leadership Capacity for a Growing CBF Virginia

In accordance with our bylaws, all proposed amendments must be submitted and shared 30 days before our voting meeting. At our General Assembly meeting on Tuesday, September 16 at First Baptist in Newport News, we plan to vote on a minor item leading toward a potential change in CBF Virginia life.

Laura Davis has served as the Associate Coordinator for CBF Virginia since July of 2023 and her work and ministry have been life-giving for congregations and partners in our fellowship. The advisory council of CBF Virginia and our Coordinator, Mark Snipes, have seen Laura’s capacity for leadership and the benefits that she brings to our system.

Virginia is also a sizeable state, and the work of CBF Virginia is not dwindling, it’s growing.

As such, a possible, significant change is happening within CBFVA’s leadership structure involving a transition from our current leadership model: single coordinator and one associate to a proposed new model: two coordinators. This decision stems from recognizing the gifts and qualifications of Laura Davis and her potential to lead effectively within the organization.

Here are a couple of the reasons for this structural change:

Recognition of Leadership Capabilities: The leadership of CBFVA believes that Laura Davis possesses the necessary skills and qualifications to take on a larger leadership role. This comes from a desire to capitalize on her strengths and leadership potential.

Organizational Growth: The move to have two coordinators instead of one coordinator and one associate also calls for the expansion of leadership roles within CBFVA. We are growing as a Fellowship and we see the need for both more focused leadership and a desire to distribute leadership responsibilities more effectively, leading to more potential growth.

Enhanced Leadership Model: We also want to create a deliberate strategy to enhance how leadership functions within CBFVA. This new model will lead to new approaches to decision-making, strategy implementation, and overall collaboration.

Long-term Vision and Planning: As we continue to grow, the leadership of CBFVA is thinking ahead and preparing for future needs and opportunities. We believe Laura has the gifts to take us to the next level.

While more specific details about this transition are to come, please know that this decision is rooted in the leadership’s confidence in Laura Davis and this new strategic vision for CBFVA’s future leadership structure, and this by-law change is the first step in this process.
