In his over five years with CBFVA, Maples has helped the organization grow in many ways. In his letter, he highlights just a few: “I am pleased to recall the milestones we’ve achieved since February 1, 2016. CBFVA is stronger today, our ministry has expanded, and we’ve cultivated many new partnerships. Our signature ministries are richer. New ways to assist clergy and congregations have taken root. We’ve created resources to benefit the entire Fellowship. Our social media presence is consistent and clear. CBFVA is administratively and financially healthy and postured well for the future.”
Paul Baxley, Executive Coordinator of CBF Global says of Maples “Terry has provided important leadership in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship family for many years. In addition to his leadership of CBF Virginia, he also offered strong guidance as Field Coordinator of Tennessee CBF. In both of these roles and in his congregational ministry, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to the thriving of congregations and encouraged all of us to be focused on the holy work of spiritual formation. His gifts as a writer and Bible Study leader have been offered in so many settings and have made a tremendous difference. He has been a valued friend and confidant for so many ministers and lay leaders. I’m deeply grateful for Terry and pray God’s blessings on him and his family as they enter a new season.”
We are so grateful for Terry’s spirit and his work among us. We will celebrate with Terry at the CBFVA’s General Assembly, set for Tuesday, September 20th in Waynesboro.
As we look toward the future, Baxley adds “As CBF Virginia enters a season of transition and searching for new leadership, the entire CBF community is praying for those entrusted with important decisions. The last several years have brought even stronger collaboration, notjust between CBF Virginia and CBF Global, but across our states and regions. I am committed to offering whatever support and encouragement is most helpful to CBF Virginia in this critical moment.”
Melissa Scott, CBFVA moderator, will help lead this transition. Scott says “Terry has been a wonderful coordinator for CBFVA, leading with discernment and grace. I am particularly grateful for the ways he has helped the Coordinating Council and CBFVA as a whole find new avenues for faith formation and for living out that faith as we work alongside our many ministry partners. I know he will continue to lead us with grace and creativity through the next several months and will leave CBFVA poised and ready for the next steps of our journey. I look forward to celebrating Terry’s good work with all of our CBFVA family and to working with our Coordinating Council to ensure that our ministry continues as we seek the next coordinator for CBFVA.”
