We are caught in a liminal space. Do you know this word? Liminality? It means “a threshold of consciousness.” Theologically speaking, liminal space refers to the moment we become conscious of a transition. Like standing in a doorway, we’re between one space and another but not fully in either. Becoming conscious of this in-between can significantly enhance what happens next. Stepping forward is an act of faith. Stepping back is an act of fear. In this address, Barrett Owen offers key insights for how we step forward faithfully and not back fearfully. With the aid of three biblical stories (Jonah, Raising of Lazarus, and Peter meeting Cornelius), Barrett offers a roadmap that helps us navigate out of this “place that is no place” in which we find ourselves.
